Can’t…Stand…It…

Have you ever tried to play with Play-doh with your two-year-old son without touching any of the Play-doh yourself?

It’s really hard.

But you know what’s even harder?

• Getting that nasty Play-doh smell off of your hands.

• Digging Play-doh out from underneath your fingernails.

• Touching—ick!—Play-(shudder)doh. Gross.

• Coming to terms with the fact that all three of your children have waaay healthier responses to sensory stimulation than you do.

I’m getting better. Six years ago I wouldn’t have touched the stuff with a ten-foot pole. Now I only need a two-foot pole.

  1. That’s a really great idea. (Especially leaving off the hair net. Although I did find a hair in the Play-doh today.)

But for me, honestly, I don’t know which one would be worse.

  2. I LOVE playdoh. I love getting messy, but I hate cleaning the stuff up.

I suggest the make-your-own kind, but make sure it’s the kind you cook in a pot, or it’s gritty. And it doesn’t have that nasty smell.

  3. In our house it’s D. who can’t stand getting playdoh and art stuff on his hands. Personally I’ve always loved the smell of playdoh (I know, I’m a nut). Seriously, the first time I opened a container with SB I must have spent about 5 minutes just inhaling the stuff.

  4. Ange, as for the make-your-own stuff can’t you just SENSE the salt in it? Don’t you feel an icky, horrible compulsion to taste it, knowing how gross it will be?

    Or maybe that’s just me.
