Stupid Expensive Appliances

Well, if it's not one thing, it's another.

Here's a way to declutter: Get rid of your refrigerator.

Alex and I noticed yesterday that our refrigerator was not keeping things cold the way it should be. I'll be calling an appliance repair service tomorrow to see if it can be saved or if we're going to have to buy a whole new one.

After discovering that our milk had gone bad, we decided to replace the chicken we bought last weekend to serve at a potluck I'm hosting tomorrow. No need to food poison everyone.

Shit.

  1. It's cheaper to by a new one, unless its under warranty. Appliance repair is a huge rip-off.

  2. I'm always on for 'buying' than 'repairing' for electrical items. Eventually it save more than spending it on repair, in the long term.

  3. I SOOOOO want a new fridge...the one we have is too small and I have to kneel down to see anything on the bottom shelf and its a pain in the butt. I want to move it to the garage for extra storage space and get one of the french-door-on-top, freezer-on-the-bottom deals. I practically drool on them in Sears. Sigh.

  4. We spent a fortune to have some arrogant dude come and "fix" our fridge in under 5 minutes. Aargh. Look online for your model - I found a lot of troubleshooting info there for ours. Good luck!

  5. Those of us who are coming to your potluck appreciate that you are buying new chicken!

  6. That stinks - but that's the only time we ever replace anything. We never "plan" an upgrade. Sears.com has a great tool where you can select different models and do a side by side comparison. And if you want to buy one there, you can order and schedule delivery all with a couple clicks. This same thing happened to us last year. I finally realized the fridge was going one afternoon, I picked a new one online that night and it got delivered the next day. I am nothing if not lazy!

  7. I feel your pain. Our dishwasher just went out and now human beings have to do all the washing.

I don't find the great sink-side conversations compensatory in view of the fact that we've broken about three dishes a day since the dishwasher broke.

  8. The fridge is fixed! Hooray! It was pricey, but not too pricey. And although I liked the idea of a brand new fridge, I suppose it was better to go the cheaper route. I hope it holds up. Thank you all for all your advice!

  9. mine keeps freezing things. Mayo, lettuce and eggs are not appetizing after being frozen!

Hope all is well with your fridge and just a minor repair!
