I'm a Beauty School Drop Out

I love boys with long hair. That goes for adult boys and little boys. So when Jack said he wanted long hair, I jumped in with open arms.

Lately though, the hair has gotten out of control. I've been cutting my kids' hair for the past several months, and it is time to admit that it has grown past the length of my expertise.

When your oldest son's silhouette is this...

...it's time to take them to a professional hair cuttery.

Moms always say this, but Sam was almost unrecognizable.

Somehow Jack always looks like Jack. And look at those big brown eyes!

Quinn looked the same as always, just slightly more coiffed.

Maybe my days as a hair cutter are over.

  1. They are ALL adorable, pre- or post-haircut.

  2. So cute!! We took the boy for a haircut this weekend too. My thing is this: if it takes longer to style his hair than it does to style mine, it's time for a cut.

  3. Oh my gosh - they all look so cute. And Sam looks so proud!

  4. I tried cutting George's hair for the first time this weekend and it looks C-R-A-Z-Y. Now I'm happy for bedhead since it hides my odd angles.

Oliver wouldn't let me near him with the scissors (smart boy) so he still looks like one of the Bad News Bears. Chris actually gave him peanut butter in a bowl the other day (don't ask). There he was at the kids' table in nothing but his undewear, shaggy head bent over the bowl while he ate peanut butter with a spoon. Chris said, "look at him - he looks like a stoner!" I have to get that kid a haircut...

  6. I like long hair on boys - but these are great cuts!

  7. I'm all for long hair too...until, as was our case, one boy was repeatedly mistaken for a girl. Then we knew a mullet was in order! (Maybe I'll repost that one day..)

    I digress...

They are the cutest with the new haircuts, too!

  8. So, so cute. My Jake can't grow his hair long- it grows straight OUT from his head. He is seriously bummed.

  9. Oh my gosh! Look how grown up Sam looks. I'm partial to short hair on boys myself but honestly your kids are cuter than cute either way.

  10. Awww, your boys are so adorable. I didn't realize Sam's hair was so light! Did you pay extra for hip 1st grade highlights? lol.

My 8yo is going through a growing out phase. I kind of like it long, and he says he likes it just how it is, but it's getting shaggy and needs a bit of cleaning up. However, he won't let me anywhere near his head with either a comb or scissors; it's PTSD after LiceFest '08.

  11. I can't get over the coloring difference from Jack to Quinn. Sam meets them in the middle.

They look like such big boys with their haircuts. Buzz 'em all I say. Less work in the morning.

  12. I love the longer hair look too, but two of my boys have funky cowlicks that cause them to have the most awful bedhead in the mornings and the youngest has such fine hair still that it gets all fuzzy. So eventually it hits a point where I break down and get hair cuts and then am upset because it makes them look so much older! LOL

  13. So.incredibly.handsome! Although reading back, you are a pretty good hair stylist.

We used to go to Cartoon Cuts too (it was also an excuse to visit the Container Store), but as we added more heads to the family it was too crazy expensive. I found a local barber who does a great job for $8. (No Container Store though.)

  15. Wow, now there's a success story. Well done you and sorry that you're now redundant in the hair department.....maybe.
    Cheers

  17. I tried to let my boys hair grow too, but it was a mess. If I wanted to do hair, I would have had girls:) The boys look great.

  19. I gave up cutting Gigi's hair after the slanted bang incident.

    Dang those boys are cute.

  20. I will gladly pay someone to cut The Squirmy Boy's hair. Otherwise, he would look like a rap video reject, with swirls and slashes in his 'do.

    They look so sweet!

  21. I LOVE the haircuts. No offense to your prior cuts. But, I am a big fan of short, short boy hair. (absolutely nothing to do with me having several ex-boyfriends/husband who had military backgrounds...)

  22. I have a son that is about to be 8 months old and his hair is getting so long. It is driving me crazy! I want to go get it buzzed but I don't want to traumatize him or make him look like he's bald. I'm stuck between a rock and a hairy place.
