Anatomy of a Photo

Yesterday Team Stimey and the rest of the assorted riff raff we are visiting here in New Mexico went on a tram ride up the Sandia mountains and then I forced everyone to take a short hike with me. This photo pretty accurately captures the mood of the day.

l to r: Alex, Quinn, nephew 1, my sister, nephew 2, Sam, my mom, Jack

Here is what this photo says to me:

Alex: I am pretending to smile, but I would much rather be sitting over at the restaurant than participating in this death march.

Quinn: The sun is in my eyes and my butt itches.

Nephews and sister: Look at how adorable and photogenic we are. None of us want to hike with you, Aunt Stimey, but we're not going to be obnoxious about it because someone has taught us to be good sports.

Sam: This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

My mom: Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. I love being with my family.

Jack: I am completely disregulated!! What is that over there? I think I will go chase it!

Vacation is all kinds of fun and I am having such a great time with my family. But OH MY DEAR LORD, TRAVELING WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN IS EXHAUSTING.

I also want to tell you this one last thing because it amuses me to no end. My house sitter emailed me to tell me that she is using gardening gloves to pick up Squeaky to medicate her. I almost fell over from laughing when I read that.  Then she followed up with, "Holding them is kind of like holding a wet bar of soap, no?"

Thank you, house sitter friend, I needed that laugh.

Also, I'm shamelessly soliciting votes for this best special needs blog contest over at Parents' Magazine, because I think it would be a really lovely thing to put on my resume. You can vote for me directly at this link, but I think you might have to register and it's a pain in the ass, but have I told you how pretty that shirt makes your eyes look?

I'm actually encouraged that they've included a special needs category in their Best Blog Awards (nominate your favorite!), because remember April?
