I walked past Mouse Town this evening and glanced down at Squeaky picking through the food dish. Then I saw Gerbil. She was on her side and she was dead. She was almost exactly two years old. She was the mouse I picked out. I liked her a lot. I’ll miss her.
Alex was kind enough to take care of the funeral services, meaning he put her inside a toilet paper tube and buried her near the other mouse corpses. He did dig her shallow grave with a spoon, so I’m pretty sure he’s going to have to dig her up tomorrow when it’s not pouring rain and re-inter her. Because I’m not going to do it.
This only leaves Squeaky. Remember Squeaky? She is the mouse with skin problems. She is missing probably half of her fur. I have no idea how that mouse is still alive. She looks like Mousenstein. And I bet she’s lonely now.
Awww! Bye, Gerbil!!!
We’re missing our little rodent here, too…our 3 yr old gerbil, Twinkle, died two weeks ago. : (
Give Squeaky a non-threatening hug from us, or maybe just a little wave or something and a thumbs up. : )
Jean, so sad to read of Gerbil’s unexpected death. It’s been a rough year for this shit.
I am so, so sorry. But at least you’re letting her take a toilet paper tube to heaven. I bet she likes that.
So sorry for your loss. It sounds like it’s time to go out and buy some new pets!
So sorry to hear that. I feel very sad for you.
Awww. Bye Gerbil. So glad we got to meet you last year. Hugs to Team Stimey.
The mouse saga seems like it was a short and sad one, overall. But with so many good cute pictures.
Poor mousies. She lived a very happy mouse life.
Well that just sucks. I’m sorry. I do however have three very alive hermit crabs that may take away some of your grief. Or tadpoles and frogs in various stages of development….
Poor little Squeaky… My brother had a mouse named Eugene who had that kind of skin issue.
sorry, Stimey. :(
Aw, I’m sorry. Rest in Peace, Gerbil.
i’m so sorry–that is the last thing you needed was to deal with one more death! i hope that squeaky can offer some kind of solace and comfort, even without his hair…
Poor little Gerbil.
So sorry to hear about Gerbil! She was a cute mouse- merle? If so I have never seen a merle mouse before so she certainly was unique. I am sure she is in little mousey heaven running around with all the mice who came before her. Two years is a very respectable age for a mouse- all mice should be lucky to live so long.

Gerbil was definitely the prettiest of the mice.
Condolences.
I am really sorry about Gerbil. Hugs to you.
I’m sorry. It tough loosing a pet.
Did it make Eugene immortal? Because I think Squeaky might be.
I’m so sorry to hear about Twinkle. I’ll give Squeaky a goldfish cracker and say it’s from you. :)
That’s sad. They don’t live long enough do they?
We lost our pet rat just as the boys were planning a 3rd birthday party for him. I was FAR more upset than they were though. They were all…oh poor Sammy…can we get a hamster now?
They absolutely don’t. Quinn had a similar reaction to losing the mice. He also wants a hamster.
Also, I’m really intrigued to know what a birthday party for a rat looks like. I imagine that your guys would do well at my house.
Although we never actually got as far as the party, I think the plan was to include large amounts of cheese. And possibly a game called “Hunt the Rat” involving hours of fun chasing down the birthday boy from behind/inside/under the sofa.
But instead we had the burial, which involved less cheese and no chasing at all. And then we bought a hamster.
And of course you bought the hamster. You are an excellent mom.
We got through 3 hamsters in the end, before I decided we were done with the whole rodent thing. And then we got the dog.
